We are very pleased to introduce our new Chairperson of the Board, Jostein Roertveit. Through his many years of experience as a member of the Chamber he brings a wide range of expertise and a dedication to the chambers continued flourishing. He is committed to continuing Svend Haakon Kristensen's important work and upholding the values the NCCJ is built on. Please read on for a message from Jostein introducing himself and sharing his vision!
Please find below a message from Jostein Roertveit to all NCCJ members:
I am honored and energized by taking on the position as Chairperson of NCCJ board. With a strong board consisting of experienced member representing a wide spectrum of Norwegian companies in Japan market, and with the support of the Ambassador Kristin Iglum and the Norwegian Embassy with the Seafood Council and Innovation Norway, our board of trustees, - and last but not least, the administration of NCCJ, - I feel confident we will be good.
I salute the outgoing Chairperson Svend Haakon Kristsensen, who took the chamber to a new level through his 6 years of service. And also, “tusen takk” to the other members of the previous board. I know you will be around and continue to network and contribute.
I have been a member of the chamber for 20 years. Throughout these years I attended many NCCJ events. I had fascinating encounters with fellow members working for leading shipping companies, major salmon companies and Japanese pioneers in the Norway-Japan seafood relation who introduced and kept several fish species in this seafood loving market; Norwegian capelin (back in the 1970’s), shrimp, mackerel, farmed salmon and trout - and as of 2024: Norwegian farmed Atlantic Cod. Furthermore, many members from maritime services and technology, medical tech, tourism, energy, entrepreneurs in the IT industry and the recent growing number of “life style” products or brands – from coffee, beer, cheese, bags, clothing to furniture - and the list is growing. One thing we for sure have in common, regardless of product, is the faith in Norwegian quality and origin to make a real difference, - and the rewarding Japan market that needs to be nurtured. As Ambassador Iglum said at our AGM last week, - together we are stronger. That is simply when we meet and network. We will continue to make a variety of selected events.
I am proud of my origin from the Lofoten islands of North Norway, - I hope you excuse me for my sometimes direct form of communication, and likewise approach me and the board with comments and ideas. You may find it peculiar that in my daily work I sell American origin seafood products, - but know that my company factory vessels have much Norwegian technology and legacy that continues making the difference.

NCCJ理事会会長就任のご挨拶
NCCJ理事会の会長に就任することを、大変光栄に思うとともに、身が引き締まる思いです。経験豊富な理事たちが幅広い業界のノルウェー企業を代表しており、クリスティン・イグルム大使とノルウェー大使館、大使館水産部、大使館通称技術部、そして評議員会の支援、さらにはNCCJ事務局の尽力があることから、今後の活動に大きな自信を持っています。
6年間にわたりNCCJを新たな高みへと導いてくださった前会長のスヴェン・ホーコン・クリステンセン氏に心から敬意を表します。そして、前理事会の皆様にも「トゥーセン・タック（ありがとう）」をお伝えしたいと思います。皆様が今後も引き続きネットワークを広げ、貢献してくださることを期待しています。
私は20年間NCCJの会員として活動してきました。この間、多くのNCCJのイベントに参加し、リーディング・カンパニーの海運業者、大手サーモン企業、そして日ノ関係の水産業界を切り開いた日本のパイオニアの方々と素晴らしい出会いを経験してきました。彼らは、1970年代にノルウェー産シシャモを日本市場に導入し、その後、エビ、サバ、養殖サーモン、マス、そして2024年にはノルウェー産養殖大西洋タラを新たに市場に定着させてきました。
また、NCCJの会員には、海事サービスやテクノロジー、医療技術、観光、エネルギー、IT業界の起業家、さらにはコーヒー、ビール、チーズ、バッグ、衣料品、家具などの「ライフスタイル」分野で活躍する企業が増えています。そのリストは今後も広がり続けるでしょう。しかし、私たちに共通しているのは、製品の種類を問わず、「ノルウェーの品質と起源が市場に本物の価値をもたらす」という信念と、日本市場を丁寧に育てていく必要があるという認識です。先週の年次総会でイグルム大使が述べたように、「共にあることで、私たちはより強くなれる」のです。それは、私たちが出会い、ネットワークを築くことで実現します。今後も厳選した多彩なイベントを開催していきます。
私はノルウェー北部のロフォーテン諸島の出身であり、時折、率直な物言いをすることがあるかもしれませんが、どうかご容赦ください。同様に、皆様からのご意見やアイデアをぜひ私や理事会にお寄せください。また、私の仕事ではアメリカ産の水産物を扱っていることを不思議に思われるかもしれませんが、私の会社の工場船にはノルウェーの技術と伝統が深く根付いており、それが今も市場での差異を生み出し続けています。
皆様とイベントでお会いできるのを楽しみにしています。
